The ninth annual Business Day/BASA awards were presented on May 29. The BASA awards are jointly sponsored by Business Day and Business Arts South Africa and serve to recognize and encourage excellence and innovation in the field of business support for the arts.

Durban's Bean Bag Bohemia (BBB) was nominated in the category for Sponsorship by a Small Business in supporting the BBB independent Museum/Gallery of Durban Culture and also for Sponsorship by a Small Business and in the category of Sponsorship in Kind where a company gives non-financial but essential support to the arts. BBB won the former award.

Bean Bag's Gallery has been in existence since 1999, and hosts monthly exhibitions of up-and-coming artists. In 2003, BBB undertook to renovate its upstairs restaurant, dedicating the space to a museum style gallery, in homage to contemporary Durban art and culture. The gallery space has evolved into a selling space, allowing artists the chance to exhibit and sell their works.
