As its opening event, Goethe on Main will host an Isicathamiya and Oswenka competition performed by groups based at the nearby Mai Mai Market space. Gordart Gallery in conjunction with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura presents 'Primal', a show of paintings by Johannesburg artist Severa Rech Cassarino. Rech Cassarino's work deals with a broad set of issues, from tribal identity in the modern age to notions of seduction and overt feminine sexuality.

Painter Fiona Couldridge presents a show of new work at the Origins Centre at Wits University. Under the title 'Exposition', the paintings in this body of work are initially generated from prints of the surfaces of toy skeletons and dolls. Their showing at the Origins Centre enables them to link to notions of origins and beginnings, death and excavation, referencing childhood and loss in an intentionally macabre manner.
