David Koloane at Goodman Gallery Cape

Few South African artists have consistently explored the friction, bustle and shifting landscape of Johannesburg's city centre as David Koloane, whose inner city studio serves as vantage point for the cities daily moods and contradictions. In this exhibition, Koloane combines his Johannesburg studies with a new body of work that engages playfully with soccer frenzy sweeping the country. In a series of large-scale charcoal and pastel drawings he depicts the player in action rendered with strong expressive marks and circular movements. Both emotive and closely observed, Koloane's work captures the intensity of living in South Africa here and now.

A portfolio of prints paying tribute to the life and work of Cecil Skotnes.  Contributing artists include Willie Bester, David Brown, Norman Catherine, Peter Clarke, Stephen Inggs, William Kentridge, David Koloane, Fritha Langerman, Louis Maqhubela, Malcolm Payne, Pippa Skotnes and Gavin Younge.  Proceeds from the sale of the portfolio will go towards the newly founded Cecil Skotnes Scholarship at the Michaelis School of Fine Art.
