Catherine Ocholla and Dominique Cheminais at blank projects

Catherine Ocholla: Wise Cracks

'Wise Cracks', Catherine Ocholla's debut solo exhibition takes an ironic look at political leadership in a series of paintings that at once reference official depictions of figures of state, and on the other hand embrace political satire in the form of daily editorial cartoons, from the likes of William Hogarth to Jonathan Shapiro (Zapiro). In this work Ocholla engages with painting as parody, questioning not only the seriousness of the men she paints in unlikely poses, but also the grand tradition of portraiture painting itself.

Dominique Cheminais: For Esme with Love and Squalor

Literature forms an important point of departure in Dominique Cheminais series of paintings that focus on J.D. Salinger's collection of short stories, 'For Esme with Love and Squalor'. These works which project imaginatively into the space of the written word combine to form an alternative narrative, a visual palimpsest that is part nostalgia and part recollection.
