'Southern Panoramas'
Gregg Smith at 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC-VideobrasilFeaturing video, performances, installations, objects, publications, paintings, photography and other artistic forms, 'Southern Panoramas' aims to create a key role for artistic output from various regions throughout the geopolitical south. This edition’s participants, including South African Gregg Smith, were chosen from 1,295 submissions, the largest number ever received by the Festival.
Diverse in terms of strategies and languages, these works remain close to the major issues of the contemporary world, with a range of concerns not limited to the field of the visual arts. Transit is one theme that recurs throughout these works, as is a questioning about nature and architecture and devices capable of mapping emotions and conducting an inventory of memory.
'Southern Panoramas' forms part of the 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil, along with 'Your body of work', a series of ten site-specific installations by Olafur Eliasson.

'Mine'
Berni Searle, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Gregg Smith, Johan Thom, Robin Rhode, Bridget Baker, Various Artists, William Kentridge and Nandipha Mntambo at Dubai Community Theatre and Arts CentreThe first exhibition of contemporary South African art in the UAE, 'Mine' is curated by South African artist, photographer and curator Abrie Fourie, who explains the concept behind the exhibition: 'The title refers not only to the idea of deep level mining, but to the concept of personal ownership. The works featured have been chosen for their diversity, with the common denominator that the artists make reference to themselves in their work, either in person, as actor, model, observer, interviewer or instigator. Mine seeks to explore the myriad ways in which we identify and position our "selves".'
