'Canaries in the Coalmine'
Barbara Wildenboer at Erdmann ContemporaryCanaries in the Coalmine is Barbara Wildenboer’s sixth solo exhibition. 'Solastalgia' is the premise for this exhibition, the term was coined by environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht in 2004 by combining the Latin word solacium (comfort) and the Greek word algae (pain). It is used to describe the emotional distress experienced when one realises that one’s home environment is under threat or changing; a form of homesickness one gets while one is still at home. Wildenboer uses a wide variety of media including paper sculpture, paper cutting, altered books, photography, animation and installation.

'Chinese Paper Cuts'
Various Artists at Erdmann ContemporaryPaper cutting is a significant Chinese folk art form grounded in social tradition and culture. Cuttings are often associated with traditional habits, customs, weddings, ceremonies and festive events. This exhibition forms part of the Chinese New Year celebrations and showcases 51 original paper cuttings from the Shaanxi Province of China.

'Nuclear Disaster Stories: An Expose'
Jan Smith at Erdmann ContemporaryMexican born photographer, Jan Smith documents remote and isolated modern-day ruins, constructs of nuclear disasters. He sensitively focuses his lens on the catastrophic effects of nuclear disasters, and illustrates the improbability of life in these radioactive wastelands. His photography is recognized by a variety of associations and media including multiple awards from the International Photographers Association and Photo District News.

'Somewhere on the other side'
Marilena Vita at Erdmann ContemporaryMarilena Vita is an Italian photographer and performance artist. Her exhibition, Somewhere on the other side, offers insight into her own life and art's philosophy. Her photographic and video work re-interprets the complex living condition of the modern-day person.

Vita lives and works in Catania, Rome and Milan.

'After the Master-Class'
Various Artists at Erdmann ContemporaryIn November 2010, veteran photographer Jurgen Schadeberg hosted a master-class for selected participants at Auto Atlantic BMW MINI Dealer on the Foreshore. The participants were asked to present works in progress, particularly material which they were developing for an exhibition. 'After the Master-Class' includes photographs by each of the participants, along with comments, discussions and interactions shared with Jurgen Schadeberg.
