'reGeneration2 – Tomorrow’s Photographers Today'

Various Artists at Michaelis Gallery

The Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT) and GIPCA (Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts) present 'reGeneration2 – Tomorrow’s Photographers Today' an exhibition of work by early career photographers from twenty five different countries. Chosen from submissions received from 730 candidates, the exhibition features 80 selected photographers including young South African artist Robert Watermeyer. Curators Natalie Herschdorfer (Musée de l’Elysée) and William Ewing (former director of the Musée de l’Elysée, 1996 to 2010)  made their selection with one key question in mind: are the photographers’ images likely to be known in twenty years’ time? A diverse array of themes are represented; the urban environment, globalization and issues of identity and memory, with photographers often blurring the boundary between reality and fiction.

Shown on the African continent for the first time, 'reGeneration2 – Tomorrow’s Photographers Today' is the second iteration of a project developed by the Musée de l’Elysée in 2005; 'reGeneration – Fifty Photographers of Tomorrow'.
