'La Fabrique Sonore'

James Beckett and James Webb at Domaine Pommery Champagne Cellars, Reims

South African artists James Webb and James Beckett participate in 'La Fabrique Sonore', a large group exhibition which runs through kilometers of the Pommery Champagne cellars in Reims, France.  'La Fabrique Sonore' is curated by Claire Staebler and Charles Carcopino and is the ninth annual 'Experience Pommery' exhibition held on the estate.

Webb is debuting a new installation called The Nameless Threshold which uses the sounds of police and security dogs attacking human targets. Webb will also present a new version of his ongoing There’s No Place Called Home intervention using the calls of a Northern Cardinal and a Southern Black Tit broadcast from speakers hidden in trees within the estate grounds.

Beckett is exhibiting Phones, a multi-channel sound installation consisting of 126 Bakelite telephones where the internal ringing mechanisms have been manipulated to create various original characters for each phone and produce a wall of sound.
