Linda Givon to open new gallery
By Katharine Jacobs on 08 August
Linda Givon, founder of the Goodman Gallery, and champion of SA art, is to open a new gallery, next April, in Joburg. In partnership with independent curator Koulla Xinisteris, the new gallery will be situated in Juta Street, Braamfontein.
‘I want to try and build up young artists -- it’s what I’ve always done -- and I think it’s good to have more competition in the market place.’ Givon told Michael Coulson of the Art Times. ‘I’m consciously not setting out to poach artists.’

‘I want to try and build up young artists -- it’s what I’ve always done -- and I think it’s good to have more competition in the market place.’ Givon told Michael Coulson of the Art Times. ‘I’m consciously not setting out to poach artists.’
Givon, who sold the Goodman three years ago to Liza Essers, may be 75 years old, but she does have a great fantastic track record – and importantly – a good personal relationships with many artists. “Maybe I don’t have the same perceptions or vitality that I used to. That’s why it’s important to have a young, vigorous partner like Koulla.”
