South African artist selected for Venice residency

Good news for young African artists looking for residencies abroad: South African artist, Tamlyn Philippa Young, is among the artists selected for a residency organised by the Fondazione di Venezia. The project, titled Art Enclosures, has been running since 2008, and aims ‘to promote and enhance the talent and work of young emerging African artists’, by giving them a three-month residency in the city, culminating in an exhibition and a printed volume.

Young, a multi-media artist, trained at the Stellenbosch Academy in 2007, was also the recipient of the 2007 Emma Smith Award. Nigerian artist Victoria Samuel Udondian, is the other residency winner, selected from a shortlist of five artists from Africa.
