The Rembrandt van Rijn Gallery presents 'Unplugged IV', the fourth phase in a group exhibition project, initiated by Kendell Geers in March 1996, in collaboration with the Market Theatre Galleries.

Exhibition opens: Sunday 21 February 1999 at 6pm. Closing Saturday 13 March.

During a panel discussion at the Sao Paulo Biennial in 1995, Bruce Ferguson (curator of Site Santa Fe and art critic for Art Forum) and Lorna Ferguson (co-ordinator of the Johannesburg Biennial 1995) entered into a discussion on the issue of soft curating. A method for producing exhibitions where the artists determine the content and presentation of the exhibition. This form of curatorial procedure proposes to be a transparent and democratic process, 'Unplugged' will endeavor to foreground this approach.

The selection process for the exhibition functions like a chain letter. Each artist has one choice, which is passed on to the next artist who will make the following choice. It is important that a copy of this notice be made and passed on to each participant, every artist should have their own copy so as to keep record of the process.
