'The Good Old Days'

An international group exhibition curated by young South African curator Clare Butcher, 'The Good Old Days' presents an unusual combination of four contemporary female artists: Agnieszka Polska, Lucia Nimcova, Lara Baladi and Nandipha Mntambo. Each artist presents a cluster of works relating to specific moments in - and forms of - collective memory, reflecting on the various ways these have been and are still mediated. While drawing on 'traditional' modes of production such as archival, domestic, and performative formats, they seek their own enunciation of the 'there and then' in the 'here and now'. Territories of the post-colonial, the gendered, the post-socialist, and of mortality are contested here, transformed into the present and the personal, but never the nostalgic.
