How to Decorate a Koek
Let Regina Handson show you how to Decorate a Koek. (For international readers, one meaning of the Afrikaans word 'koek' is cake.) Including examples of how a koek is properly iced, this site allows you to ice your own koek and send in the pics to be part of a contest to win a set of cookie cutters. Or, one can simply use the sweet decorations provided and drag and drop cherries and swirls on Lala, the koek model. When one enters the icing competition there is a chance of qualifying for the regional finals and being published on the site.
On Friday October 13, 2000, Lala Works and Regina Handson presented 'Icing' - the Cape Town launch party celebrating a new, limited edition recipe book 'How to Ice a Koek' and this corresponding website.
Regina Handson's two assistants Buffie vannie Kerk and Princess Sarah Lee Labia gave away copies of 'How to Ice a Koek' to the first 50 lucky members of the public. Thereafter copies were sold at R5 a pop tart. They are presently on sale at Lola's on Long Street in Cape Town. This site cleverly plays on the traditional in-the-kitchen role of women during the 50's - the obsession for having a perfectly iced cake. For a really overdone topic Regina Handson has found a truly unique way of, again, commenting on the role of women in history.
