This week: Have you ever heard of a giclée print? It's the new artsmart way to describe a digitally scanned print, printed on an inkjet printer. According to correspondent Alan Coleman, the term "demonstrates a deep ignorance of the French language, in which the term connotes ejaculated -- as in male human sperm and cat spray. The French find use of this term in U.S. photo and print-making circles hysterically funny." Yes, but is the process archival? Many South African artists and photographers are excited by the depth of colour and detail the process provides. Read Coleman's opinions in News.
Today we carry the first ever listing from Bloemfontein - !Xoe Off-Site is going to Oliewenhuis, and land artist Strijdom van der Merwe will open the show there next Tuesday. Kathryn Smith is still working on her piece on the decline of the galleries in Johannesburg, and this will appear next week, together with an obituary for the late lamented Market Gallery by ex-director Stephen Hobbs.
