Nominated for the next DaimlerChrysler award and headed for December's
Florence Biennale, Paul du Toit's work is a runaway commercial success, his
solo show at the Bell-Roberts Art Gallery all but sold out. But is his brand

The Ruth Prowse School of Art, a Cape Town institution for some 30 years,
was threatened with closure at the end of last year due to financial
troubles. Artists have rallied around and donated works for a fund-raising
auction, to be held this week at the National Library of South Africa in
Cape Town (see Listings). There are 600
works of art by 335 artists on offer, providing a unique opportunity to snap
up pieces by William Kentridge, Pippa Skotnes and Norman Catherine, among
others, for a very worthy cause.
