Food in the City

After a prolonged wobble Johannesburg's much-maligned CBD district is rapidly showing signs of urban revival - even gentrification. The successful News Caf´┐Ż franchise has quietly opened-up a branch in the Civic Theatre, offering patrons gutsy views of the concrete jungle adjacent. Deeper into the presumed squalor, the Johannesburg Art Gallery is now serving contemporary light snacks and traditional African meals. Rhulani Restaurant and Bar is situated on the first floor of the JAG, and is open from 10a.m to 5p.m every Tuesday through Sunday. Both venues are ideally situated for enterprising art lovers eager (or brave enough, depending on how you view the city) to map the evolving 'Jhb Art City' project, initiated by Wits graduate Saul Symanowitz.
