A newly revamped Premises gallery set to open

The new Premises gallery will open on new years day, January 2004 in a precinct adjacent the newly revived Civic Theatre. The new gallery space will be creatively directed and managed by independent artists' lab The Trinity Session (aka Kathryn Smith, Stephen Hobbs and Marcus Neustetter). The gallery was made possible through the Braamfontein regeneration project that counts Sappi and the Johannesburg Civic Theatre as some of its stakeholders.

The Premises will be strategically located on the Braamfontein Theatre Precinct, part of the areas' Cultural Arc that begins in Newtown and ends at Constitution Hill. The new space will offer 150m2 interior space with 1&1/2 volume ceiling (4.5m high); 150m2 outdoor terrace overlooking the Ameshoff Street piazza; and secure underground parking with escalators up to the gallery.

Most important, the gallery has a captive audience: The Johannesburg Civic Theatre boasts a daily visitor count of over 1000 people.
