Eleven countries represented at Thupelo

This year's Thupelo artists' workshops will include practitioners from not only South Africa but 10 other countries. The 22 participants include artists from Egypt, Australia, Congo, Trinidad, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Kenya, Zambia and Botswana. The workshop will take place in the peaceful rural surroundings of the Goedgedacht Trust Conference Centre near Malmesbury, and run from February 6 to 20.

Organised by artists, the well-established Thupelo workshops aim to bring together artists from all over the world to create work, share and discuss techniques and conceptual positions.

Members of the press are invited to visit the workshop on Monday, February 17 where they may spend the day with the artists. They will have the opportunity to view and discuss the work in progress and are invited for lunch with the participants.

Iziko Museums of Cape Town will host an exhibition at the end of the workshop at the South African National Gallery Annexe. Artist and Thupelo trustee, Lionel Davis, will open the event on Sunday, 23 February at 12h00. The exhibition will close on Friday, February 28.
