Thando Mama receives the Belgian Community's Award at Dakar Biennale

Dak'Art Biennale of Contemporary Art held the sixth edition in May and June and the Belgium Community awarded their prize to the young South African, Thando Mama for his video installations. Mama has been rapidly gaining attention both in South Africa and internationally.
As a result Mama, recent graduate of the Durban Institute of Technology, will spend a few months as an artist-in-residence in Belgium. Sara Diamond, the jury president presented the award to Mama in front of the Senegalese President, Abdoulayye Wade.
One of Mama's video installations, (un)hea(r)d can currently be seen as part of the exhibition ' Decade of Democracy: Contemporary South African Art' on view at South African National Gallery.
