Res Artis' partnership with the Dakar Biennial

Res Artis, the worldwide network of artist residencies, has created an innovative partnership with the Dakar Biennial. Members of Res Artis are art centres, foundations and individuals who promote artist mobility and artistic exchange which creates understanding between different cultures. For the first time in Africa, Res will be donating fully-funded residencies as Biennial prizes. In this pioneering initiaitive, Res Artis will contribute directly to the development of African artists, enabling international mobility in a continent that is too often overlooked.

In addition, several Res Artis delegates will participate in the entire programme of the Biennial and host a symposium to further promote international artist exchange and mobility through residencies. The Res Artis partnership with the Dakar Biennial is part of the Res Artis diversity project, supported by the Ford Foundation. It is part of Res Artis' long term commitment to establish meaningful contacts with African creative communities and their international colleagues.

Res Artis is the largest existing network of artist residency programmes, representing the interests of more than 200 centres and organisations in 50 countries worldwide that offer international artists facilities and conditions to create art. The network supports two essential programmes; face to face meetings for our members and a website and newsletter for information distribution. For more info visit www.resartis.org

The event takes place from May 5 - 13, 2006 in Dakar, Senegal.
