The Art Bank Jo'burg announces CEO
The Art Bank Jo'burg has announced the appointment of Johannesburg artist Antoinette Murdoch as its Chief Executive Officer. Murdoch, whose career in the local at scene has seen numerous solo shows and inclusion on plenty of local and international group shows, takes the reins at the Art Bank Joburg with immediate effect. The Art Bank Joburg is a new initiative set up by the City of Johannesburg to make contemporary art available for rent at affordable and tax deductible rates.
Says Murdoch, 'I feel privileged that the trustees of Art Bank Jo'burg have placed their faith in me to make a success of this venture. We will be putting contemporary art in the offices of individuals who may never otherwise, under any other circumstances, be exposed to conceptually substantial and well-crafted art work.'
Based on a highly-successful Canadian model adapted for 'a South African context', the Art Bank Jo'burg seeks to strike a balance between the interests of business and those of the artist. The organisation will provide clients with advice and recommendations on selections that work best with the setting and décor of their work environments. Clients will be able to tailor their selection around a theme and also have the opportunity to change their art every two years, avoiding the care and maintenance involved in owning a permanent collection. Art Bank Jo'burg provides a full service from consultation to installation. 'I am fortunate to be at the head of an organisation in which I can actively partake in building and growing a culture of awareness and support of visual arts creation in Johannesburg', says Murdoch.
