Winners of the 'FNB Craft Now' 2006 awards announced

Winners of the 'FNB Craft Now' 2006 awards were announced at the 6th national exhibition, which opened at the KZNSA Gallery on July 20.
The first prize of R15 000 was awarded to Angeline Bonisiwe Masuko for two hand-woven baskets, made from Ilala Palm and dyed with natural plant dye. Second prize of R10 000 went to artist Yda Walt for her linocut and screenprint images on felt, with detailed hand-stitching entitled Downtown, and artist Karen Suskin was awarded the third prize of R6000 for her work Lobolo Mantle, a hand-made cloak made of industrial felt, cow hair, porcelain and wooden beads. The 'New Signature Award' of R 5 000 was presented to Nelisiwe Nxumalo for a red embroidered umbrella, decorated with images of animals and insects.
Twenty works from the exhibition, including the top three works, were selected for auction, which is to take place in Johannesburg at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank. The selected artists are Martha Zettler, Thulisiwe G. Shongwe, Pretty Nombifuethu Maphumelo, Jabulani Nala Mhlabini, the Boitumelo Sewing Group, Verona Hinggs, Sicelo Siqubu, Roger Amulphy, Heartworks, Clementina van der Walt, Kevin Friedman, Nomusa Masuku, Zodwa Mapumulo and Lindelani Ngwenya.
