MTN Launches Messages and Meaning
The MTN Foundation payed tribute to local artists this month when it launched its art collection book, Messages and Meaning at the Oliewenhuis Museum, Bloemfontein.
The 300 page Messages and Meaning showcases African artists and works from MTN's corporate collection, which is known to be one of the most extensive corporate collections. An exhibition of some of the finest works from the collection will accompany the launch of the book. The exhibition is part of a national tour that will see the collection hosted in Durban, Stellenbosh and Polokwane. Other venues have yet to be confirmed.
The colour images of works from the MTN Art Collection illustrate a series of 13 essays by leading writers, art historians, anthropologists and curators, including Andries Oliphant, Emile Maurice, Nessa Leibhammer, Khwezi Gule, Pattabi Ganapati Raman, Philippa Hobbs, Ronel Kellner, Colin Richards, Clive Kellner, Wilma Cruise, Judy Seidman and Elizabeth Rankin. The writers share their insights on many of the 1400 works in the Collection, the messages they embody, the stories they tell, the ideas they communicate and the spaces - both architectural and psychological - the works occupy.
