Launch of new Obert Contemporary Satellite Gallery
Michael Obert of Obert Contemporary in Melrose Arch launched his new space, a satellite gallery in Braamfontein in April. Situated at 155 Smit Street (cnr Smit and De Beer), the new 300sq metre space will be used for previews, special events and installation shows. Gallery headquarters will remain in Melrose Arch.
The inaugural show is an installation of over 1500 photographs of Johannesburg and related international cities, by Stephen Hobbs. The opening on April22 saw an accompanying sound performance by James Webb. The City of Johannesburg, BASA, Liquid Chefs and Famous Grouse Whiskey sponsored the launch.
