The Bowling Club launched in Cape Town
Artist and designer Peet Pienaar has launched a new club devoted to 'local and international cultural exchange' that aims to transform Cape Town into a cultural hotspot. To this end, The Bowling Club is hosting a monthly series of works and projects by international and local artists, musicians, designers, writers and business people.
The new club kicked off last month with a solo concert by accordion player Mario Batkovic at St George's Cathedral and an evening of musical exchanges and performances in Sea Point. These included Swiss-based Norient with a sound lecture focused on politics, propaganda, war and exoticism. This event will travel next to Club Transmediale in Berlin.
The Sea Point event also included Swiss band Velma with its 'genre-blasting' performances as well as a collaboration between Batkovic and Afro-Latin-jazz fusion vocalist Adamu, jazz double bassist Wesley Rustin and jazz drummer Kesivan Naidoo.
Other members of The Bowling Club are Brad Armitage, Andrew Putter, Jaco Bouwer, Gareth Chisholm, Andries Odendaal, Michael Streatfield, Donald Swanepoel, Hanlie Kriel, Julia Raynham, Bridget Baker, Stacy Hardy and friends.
