Art for Humanity artworks chosen to launch 'Art Without Borders'

New website 'Art Without Borders' began as the idea of Rutgers University's Centre for Global Security and Democracy. Its purpose is to bring the benefits of social networking to artists isolated by economy and geography. Its target area is the Global South and its Diaspora where it aims to function as a registry and exhibition site that takes advantage of online multi-media and emerging internet social networking technologies to help artists, art organisations, galleries and museums to overcome their isolation.

The exhibitions on the site are designed to be fully multi-media, combining images with text, audio and video, providing downloadable catalogues, podcasts, videocasts and often educational material.

The exhibitions included in the launch of this site are all projects from Durban-based Art for Humanity. This organisation has worked since 1988 to bring art together with Human Rights, specialising in producing print portfolios, exhibitions, billboards and research projects which advocate various Human Rights issues in South Africa, across the continent and internationally.

This site can be viewed from February at www.art-without-borders.com

(If you run into problems as this is just a beta site for now, please report them to chrishai@rutgers.edu)
