Canna award to Adriaan Van Zyl Retrospective
The genre of photo-realist painting got a boost with the deceased Adriaan van Zyl scooping the only Canna award for the Visual Arts at the 2007 Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees (KKNK). With the exhibition, curator Amanda Botha sought to establish van Zyl's contribution to the genre of photo-realist painting in South Africa.
Van Zyl, who died in 2006 after a long illness, dealt with his own experiences of hospitalisation during his battle against cancer through his evocative paintings.
