SA photographers on LUMO International Photography Triennale

'LUMO', one of the biggest and oldest international photography events in Finland, has taken place every three years since 1989. In 2007, the event will feature new photography from South Africa, Cuba and Europe. The theme of this triennial is 'Us'. The wide theme is focused on the way the photographic art presents the changes that people have gone through or are expecting to happen; how life is after changes in the society, and how community and identity are expressed in these contexts.

Works selected for 'LUMO '07' from South Africa are by Dale Yudelman, Mikhael Subotzky and Pieter Hugo. They will exhibit alongside Cuban master of photography Jose A. Figueroa, who will show his series of youth of Havana in 1960s. He is supported by countrymen Raul Cordero and Alejandro Gonzalez. The rest of the line-up is yet to be confirmed but there will be a component of work by young Finnish artists selected from photography schools in the country.

During the springseveral workshops and courses are to be run, where people from different backgrounds will explore and present their identity and relationship to the surroundings and the community they live in their photography.
