'Newspeak: British Art Now'

Carla Busuttil at Saatchi Gallery

The title of this two part exhibition is taken from George Orwell's dystopian classic Nineteen Eighty-Four, in which Newspeak is 'the only language in the world whose vocabulary is getting smaller every year'. However, this exhibition aims to 'turn that Orwellian vision on its head, showing that the range of visual languages being exploited and invented by these new artists is, in fact, expanding and multiplying'. Included on the show is South African artist and Wits graduate Carla Busuttil, who was recently launched into the media spotlight when Charles Saatchi bought up her entire Royal Academy of Arts exhibition.
