'Chaotic Region'
Nigel Mullins at Oliewenhuis'Chaotic Region', a recent body of paintings by Nigel Mullins, casts new light on how we make sense of the world. In tackling ideas that track the space between superstition and scientific humanism, Mullins asks certain vital questions: Are science and art polar opposites in the quest for understanding? Are logic and imagination mutually exclusive? How much does the one give to, or conflict with, the other? Can we even draw a dividing line when it comes to what we know and what we think we know? One thing is for certain: whether we are using the lenses of science or art to examine the world, both have the potential to enrich and deepen our investigations, be it through delight, shock, epiphany or horror.
