Not Alone
Various Artists at Iziko William Fehr Collection at the Castle of Good Hope
'Not Alone', an international project of MAKE ART/STOP AIDS features the work of artists from Brazil, USA, India and South Africa. Through the power of art, the exhibition draws attention to the capacity for international solidarity to lessen the impact of the AIDS epidemic, and to the importance of access to effective treatment.
On show is the work of American artist Daniel Goldstein, who with John Kapella created Medicine Man (2007), utilising nearly 300 medication bottles required to sustain the lives of the two artists, their friends and lovers. Daniel Goldstein is in Cape Town until mid-November working at the Castle to create another Medicine Man installation, this time using ARV medication bottles found locally.
Also look out for the Keiskamma Altarpiece, embroidered and beaded by the community of Hamburg to celebrate being given access to antiretroviral treatment, which is on display at the Iziko Slave Lodge.
