Joburg Photo Umbrella 2014

The Joburg Photo Umbrella is the first public photography-specific programme in the city of Johannesburg to bring together and network a wide range of photography content, exhibitions, activities and dialogue. Joburg Photo Umbrella is a festival of photography initiated by the Market Photo Workshop in collaboration with the British Council’s Connect ZA and the Brighton Photo Biennial.

Key to the Joburg Photo Umbrella's intention is to extend photography content to a wide public and to ensure accessibility through extending photography to public domains.

It includes a primary co-commission produced from the collaboration between South African photographer Thabiso Sekgala and British photographer Kalpesh Lathigra. This co-commission will be exhibited at the Brighton Photo Biennial in October 2014, and then curated for the Johannesburg to be installed at the Mary Fitzgerald Square as part of the Joburg Photo Umbrella on 8 November 2014.
