At the opening of Alfredo Jaar's 'Venezia Venezia' at the Venice Biennale, a transfixed crowd watches a detailed model of all the art pavilions of the Giardini emerge from below the surface of the water in an enormous tank. After a short interval, the buildings slowly disappear beneath the water again, leaving nothing.
