52nd International Venice Biennale announces International Jury

The award ceremony of the 52nd International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, presided over by Davide Croff, will take place for the first time a month before the closing date. Since the opening in June, the exhibition has been Italy's most visited art event, with more than 12 000 visitors per week and 200 000 visitors in about 100 opening days.

The prizes will be awarded on October 17 at the Teatro alle Tese dell'Arsenale di Venezia at 12pm. International guests from the National Participations and the Collateral Events, artists and professionals will attend the event.

The members of the International Jury proposed by Robert Storr, Director of the 52nd International Art Exhibition, are:

Manuel J. Borja-Villel (President), Director Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona;
Iwona Blazwick, Director Whitechapel Gallery, London
Ilaria Bonacossa, curator Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino
Abdellah Karroum, independent curator, Paris and Rabat
José Roca, Director of Arts, Banco de la República, Bogotá, and Artistic Director Philagrafika 2010, Philadelphia

The International Jury will award the following Prizes:

Golden Lion to an artist exhibited in the central international exhibition;
Golden Lion to an artist under 40 exhibited in the central international exhibition or in the national participations;
Golden Lion for the best national participation. The selection includes 'Check List-Luanda Pop' African Pavilion;
Golden Lion to an art critic or an art historian for his or her contribution to contemporary art.

The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, assigned to the Malian artist Malick Sidibé, was awarded at the Giardini della Biennale on June 10, on the occasion of the official opening to the public.

A three-volume catalogue is published by Marsilio. The Biennal closes on November 21.
