DocumentaII director Okwui Enwezor this month unveiled the names of the 116 artists chosen to exhibit in Kassel, Germany, from June 8 to September 15. The exhibition follows four "platforms" of lectures and workshops held over the past year (full documentation of which can be found on the
Documenta website) on such topics as 'Democracy Unrealised' and 'Experiments with Truth'. At a press conference in Paris, Enwezor said the Kassel exhibition did not represent the "conclusion" of the platforms, whose very structure challenged the notion that any one event can nominate for itself the position of being the "most important" in the global artworld. Nonetheless, selection for the exhibition is highly prized and prestigious, and our congratulatons go to the South African participants - William Kentridge, Kendell Geers, Santu Mofokeng and David Goldblatt. The next Artthrob update will be the June edition, live on the 1st of the month. We are having to cut back on our weekly updates due to a lack of funding, with applications recently turned down by both the National Arts Council and the National Lotteries Board. If you have suggestions about possible funding sources, please email the editor.
