Two South African artist highlighted in Japanese Hot 100

Robin Rhode and Zwelethu Mthethwa are the only two South African artists singled out in a magazine list of 100 leading global artists. The list has been compiled by the magazine BT /Bijutsu Techo - . A Japanese only monthly publication, BT /Bijutsu Techo was founded in 1948 and is devoted solely to contemporary visual art.

The magazine's April issue is themed 'Very New Art 2004', and focuses on 100 artists selected by Japan's leading 11 curators and critics. The selections were made by Kentaro Ichihara, Masashi Ogura (Art Critic), Mami Kataoka (Senior Curator, Mori Art Museum), Yukie Kamiya (Associate Curator, New Museum, New York), Yuko Hasegawa, Manami Fujimori (Art Critic), Midori Matsui (Art Critic; Advisory Committee of the 2004 Carnegie International), Akiko Miki (Chief Curator, Palais de Tokyo, Paris), Raiji Kuroda (Fukuoka Asian Art Museum), Yukiko Shikata (Associate Curator, Mori Art Museum) and Minoru Hatanaka (Curator, NTT Inter Communication Center).
