Resignations aplenty at JAG
The recent resignation of Rochelle Keene, Director of the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) has been followed by further resignations. David Brodie, the contemporary collections curator, and Brenton Maart, exhibitions curator have both tendered their resignations. At present Veliswa Gwintsa is acting Director of the JAG.
Brodie declined to comment on his resignation, while Gwintsa did not reply to a request for further information. Maart, who leaves at the end of February, will be embarking on a rural art initiative, while Brodie will join a prestigious Johannesburg Gallery.
The resignations come less than year following Alex Dodd's remark, published in Art SA, that Brodie and Maart "were full of passion and commitment to the gallery's evolving identity."
