Young Artists' Project Seminar in Durban
As part of its Young Artists Programme, the NSA Gallery in Durban will run a two day seminar at the beginning of May with the intention of bringing to Durban leading voices in contemporary African art, and to set an international context for the Young Artists Project. The YAP has been a series of showcase exhibitions for young artists, and this seminar is being funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy. Speakers include Camerounian artist Goddy Leye, Johannesburg critic and artist David Koloane, ArtThrob founding editor Sue Williamson and curator Khwezi Gule.
On the first day, Thursday, May 5, in a closed session, participants will view presentations by the artists of the Young Artists Project. On day 2, May 6, starting at 9 a.m., conference convenor Storm Janse van Rensburg will giv e an overview of the project, and will be followed by the four keyunote speakers. This sessions will chaired by Dr Patricia Achieng from Kenya. The catalogue will also be launched. The venue is the Diakonia Centre, 20 St Andrews St, Durban.
