Pieter Hugo wins Standard Bank Young Artist Award for 2007
The increasingly visible photographic artist Pieter Hugo has cemented his position in local contemporary art circles by winning the coveted Standard Bank Young Artist Award for 2007. Hugo, whose output deals with wide ranging subjects, is possibly best known right now for his work around contested and highly emotive notions of difference and exclusion. In winning the award, Hugo joins other young luminaries like Wim Botha and Kathryn Smith who have recently established their positions through the competition.
