Dates for second instalment of Cultural Impact Series
The second instalment in the yearlong Cultural Impact Series continues on Monday, November 17. The overall reach of the series aims to examine the connections between the cultural and tourism industries, and hopes to develop a set of strategies to promote and advance cultural tourism.
The November 17 session, titled 'Mapping the Creative City', features contributions from guest speakers Robert Weineck (presently working with the CAPE Project and previously from the public art collective Public Eye), Mokena Makeka (a founding member of the CAPE project, chief facilitator and promoter of the African Gateway millennium Precinct), and Roger Van Wyk (an independent cultural producer/ curator).
The session will look at a number of past and present initiatives which seek to examine how the City of Cape Town could be "mapped", surveyed and understood both in terms of where cultural resources are located in the city but also what impact these resources have on the economy and on the tourism industry.
The objective of the session is to look particularly at facilitating the development of a substantive survey on culture and the impact it makes on the economy of the city.
Date: Monday, November 17
Time: 5.30 for 6pm
Venue: On the Side, at Artscape on the Foreshore
