HISTORY

Founded as a one-person site by Sue Williamson in August 1997, Artthrob has since expanded to many times its original size.

AWARDS

Artthrob has three-times been a finalist in the Arts & Culture Trust Awards. In 1999 ArtThrob was nominated for the United Nations prize for best cultural website. In 2000 Berlin curator Pat Binder selected the site as an art piece in its own right and included it in an exhibition entitled 'Woven Maze' at the University of Hannover.

QUOTE

Reporting back on the Paris conference 'The State of Visual Arts in Africa and the African Diaspora: Agenda for the 21st Century', Nka editor Salah Hassan noted the "serious lack of publications, periodicals and magazines on the visual arts in the continent", and referred to Artthrob as "pointing to the unlimited potential of cyberspace in publishing a first class art review" (Nka, Spring/Summer 2001).
